What is Smarkets?

Smarkets organizes live events, upcoming fixtures and longer-running questions in an exchange interface. Its catalog includes traditional sports, horse racing, politics and selected broader event contracts. The key cost distinction is market-level net-winnings commission rather than a fixed charge on every stake.

Who it is for

  • Users comparing sports exchange prices
  • Political-event traders

Workflows with Smarkets

Compare an event

Match the competition, participant and settlement rule before comparing another venue’s price.

Calculate net value

Apply the account’s commission to net market winnings rather than subtracting a flat percentage from all stakes.

Track an in-play market

Monitor suspension and available liquidity as the event evolves.

Pricing and total cost

Standard charges 2% of net profit per market. Pro charges 1% per settled matched bet, on its profit if it wins or its loss if it loses; it applies to qualifying high activity above 1,500 bets or £1m staked per calendar month. Select uses the same per-bet basis at 3% for accounts above £25,000 net profit over the previous 12 calendar months. The account statistics page tracks these thresholds.

Getting started

Before you start: Account location determines which Smarkets products are available.

  1. Find an event through search or category navigation.
  2. Read market-specific settlement rules.
  3. Complete account and location eligibility.
  4. Review the account’s commission tier.
  5. Inspect available prices and size.
  6. Track working orders and final market-level results.

What to check

  • Account location determines which Smarkets products are available.
  • A public page with no executable quote is not a tradeable zero price.
  • High-activity commission tiers should not be modeled as the Standard schedule.
  • In-play market availability and settlement treatment vary by event.
