What is GDELT?

GDELT turns news coverage into structured event and knowledge-graph records, with downloadable data and analysis tools. It can help researchers find reporting patterns, locations and related entities around a geopolitical market question.

Its output reflects what media report and how automated systems classify it. A spike in coverage is not a verified event count, and a coded event is not by itself a settlement source.

Who it is for

  • OSINT researchers following geopolitical narratives
  • Developers building news-monitoring and event-analysis pipelines

What to check

  • Automated extraction, duplicate coverage and uneven media attention can distort counts. Verify material claims against original reporting and authoritative sources.
